September 11, 2010 - VIET-CARE's 1st Annual Retreat
Viet-CARE's staffs and guests spent a wonderful day at the Huntington Garden exploring, nurturing, and supporting each other's passion for community services. The day allowed everyone to relax, be more aware of oneself in relation to each other and to their community. Through the process we have developed a mantra: "We CARE about the community suffering from mental illness, We SHARE our resources, We DARE to make a difference."
On May 15, 2010, at Acacia Adult Day Services, Viet-CARE hosted its 2nd Annual Mental Wellness Day. The event was a great success, with more than 250 people attended and 14 different agencies presence to provide information on current available resources/ services for Vietnamese-American living in Orange County, CA. The day opened with a keynote presentation by Susie Dong-Matsuda, Psy.D., LCSW. Then, the day continued with 2 repeated workshops on Children & Adolesence and Adults & older Adults facilitated by Martin Vuong, LCSW and Hannah Nguyen, PhD candidate at UCLA. The 2 workshops consisted of panelists who are clinical social workers, psychologists, psychiatrist, family advocate and consumer advocate. These mental health professionals discussed and addressed the mental health concerns/ questions raised by workshop participants. The event was covered by local news media.
Viet-CARE want to thank the local Boys & Girls Scout volunteers, other individual volunteers, the volunteer clowns of Orange County, the mental health professionals volunteered to be on the panels at both workshops, the vendors and local businesses who donated food & drinks for the event, and the planning committee members.
Check back for new posts for pictures and media coverage of the event.
